Unveiling of the Biodiversity Sphere

Over the past few months, artist and biologist Rafael Martig has painted the sphere at various locations in Leiden, drawing inspiration from local residents, staff, students, and researchers from the Bio Science Park.

Curious about the final result? You are warmly invited to join us on Wednesday, July 2, starting at 9:45 AM with a welcome reception in room E0.056, Zernikedreef 11, Leiden. The program begins at 10:00 AM and ends at 10:45 AM.

Biodiversity Sphere
The colorful Biodiversity Sphere stands 1.80 meters tall and symbolizes the crucial role of soil life in supporting above-ground biodiversity. It also represents the positive influence of nature on (language) development in young children and highlights innovative DNA research (metagenomics). Finally, the sphere reflects the practice-oriented research carried out at Leiden University of Applied Sciences. The Biodiversity Sphere is an initiative of DNA in Beeld and aims to present the (research) stories of the Bio Science Park in an appealing and accessible way.
