Free science walks
Since Holland’s first university was founded in 1575, Leiden has been a city where innovation and scientific discovery flourished. With a prestigious library, botanical garden, observatory and academic hospital, the university quickly gained a reputation that attracted scholars from all over Europe. Leiden scientists conducted research in everything from medicine to astrology, physics, mathematics and animal behavior. Did you know that since 1901 there have been as many as 16 Nobel laureates with a connection to Leiden?
Walk the Science Route for free with a city guide
The science walk takes you past the most beautiful places in Leiden, with stories about science. With the Science route you discover the past, present and future of science in Leiden, City of Discoveries.
The city guides of the city have planned several walks. Register in advance via the link with the walk and come to the VVV fifteen minutes in advance, where we start the walk.
During the Dutch Bio Science Week the city walk is free. Guides from Uitjes Leiden and Groepswijzer take you through the city and know the best stories.
